Lottery Ticket Worth $2m Almost Thrown Out
A couple in Michigan nearly missed out on winning $2 million from a scratch-off lottery ticket after the winner thought it was a losing ticket.
A couple in Michigan nearly missed out on winning millions from a scratch-off lottery ticket. This was after the woman who received the ticket thought it was a dud.
A husband and wife from Lansing, who chose to remain anonymous, said that the husband gave her a $20 Multiplier Spectacular scratch-off for her birthday.
The man said he likes to give his wife Lottery tickets for her birthday and purchased the big winner at Kassa’s Market in Harrison Township.
Thinking it wasn’t a winning ticket, the wife went to throw it away — but her husband grabbed it to give it a second look, saw it was a winning ticket worth $2 million, then double-checked it at a local retailer.
“We don’t consider ourselves to be lucky, so this was a nice surprise,” the couple said.
The Lansing duo visited the Michigan State Lottery headquarters on Tuesday night to claim their prize, WDIV reported. They took a one-time lump sum of $1.3 million. Alternatively, they could have taken an annuity with 30 annual payments of roughly $67,000.
The couple said they plan to use the money for their children’s college tuition.
Other Cases
Fortune struck big for a Brit lady, who owned a lottery ticket worth $181 million. However, her husband became a villain to her luck, as he binned the ticket.
An elderly woman, who has not been named for security reasons, had taken note of the numbers on her ticket but did not have the original.
“I play every week – I play the lottery, the Euromillions and the Thunderball – but my husband takes the ticket off me and I don’t see it again. That’s why I always write my numbers down,”
After the ticket remained unclaimed for over a week, she checked her notepad. Additionally, she found the winning numbers to be hers.
“I went down to the newsagent and showed him my pad. He said, ‘My God, you’re a winner,’ but I said.
‘I’m not a winner – the ticket has been binned,'” she said. She added cursing the moment when the ticket was thrown.
The winning ticket netted the biggest jackpot ever scooped in the Europe-wide contest.
