Teen dad, 19, scoops £10k-a-month for a year on new Lottery game. This was the teen’s first time playing the lottery game. He discovered his win while sitting in the bath!
Former Army engineer Sam Lawton, 19, scored the £120,000 prize in his first-ever time playing. Although he had never played the lottery before, Sam said he had once won £20 on a scratchcard.
The dad-of-one, from Leamington Spa, beat odds of 1,700/1 to win the Set For Life draw on August 12. He is already planning a trip to New York with girlfriend Connie Bell, 20.
Sam, who now works as a data analyst after leaving the Army to become a dad to one-year-old Noah, said he decided to play after seeing Dean Weymes, 24, scoop £3million last month.
He said: “I was in the bath and just thought that I’d have a go.
“I saw Dean Weymes celebrating his win and just thought I’d have a punt.
“I downloaded the National Lottery app in the bath, put a tenner in my account and then played a Lucky Dip.”
After finishing his bath, Sam checked his phone to see a message telling him he had won the life-changing amount.
He added: “It was only an hour, maybe 90 minutes, after I first played when I saw a message on my phone and it said I’d won the second prize – £10k a month for 12 months.
At first, Sam couldn’t believe he had won on his first go. He had to confirm with his family.
“Having never played before I asked Connie to take a look. But like me, she had never played before so we called her brother Craig, who’d played the National Lottery for years.”
It was only when Craig confirmed what had happened that the couple allowed the news to sink in.
Sam added: “We’re not really lucky people. We’ve never had anything like this. It doesn’t happen to people like us.
“It’s the ultimate beginner’s luck.”
They are planning on putting some of the money towards a deposit for a house. Furthermore, Sam wants to learn how to drive with the spare money.
He added: “The next thing on my list is a driving license. I haven’t passed my test and with a small family, I need wheels, maybe a BMW 1 series.
“The win will allow me to learn to drive and get a car straight away – which is amazing.’
