Barca and Spain star Xavi wins the Qatari lottery

Powerball lottery

Xavi winning prize of one million Qatari Rial was bagged by the Al-Sadd football player, who said it was completely unexpected.

The lottery is part of Doha Bank’s Al Dana Savings Scheme, which has a lottery draw for its savings customers. An account was opened by Xavi with the bank last year, and unsurprisingly said he was ‘delighted’ to have opened it.

He said: “Winning the QR1m cash prize was an unexpected but welcome surprise.

“I had opened my account at Doha Bank on December 5, 2016. I had taken interest in the Al Dana programme after hearing about how Doha Bank encourages their customers to save money. They all get a chance to become millionaires, as well as the opportunity to win other cash prizes.

Did you Know?

Until 1966, Qatar used the Indian rupee as currency. When India devalued the rupee in 1966, Qatar, along with the other states using the Gulf rupee, chose to introduce its own currency. Before doing so, Qatar briefly adopted the Saudi riyal too.

Xavi Thoughts on Barca

Xavi Hernandez has recently criticised Barcelona (his former club) transfer dealings. The Catalan giants only brought in Gerard Deulofeu, Nelson Semedo, Paulinho and Ousmane Dembele.

Barca also failed to sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool, while Neymar left the club to join Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record move. “Barca still play really good football but they could have signed better,” Xavi said in an interview.

This one does at least on face value looks like a cheap publicity stunt. Though it maybe just too cheesy to actually be so. We would also like to think that Sir Xavi is beyond such antics. Whether he would be oblivious to any such tricks is a separate question though! The jury is still out on this one and will most likely stay out.
