Irish Lotto Winner: To Be Jobless Grandad Wins £150k
Soon to be jobless, toothache-stricken grandad put £1 on the Irish Lotto after losing a United bet – and won £150k. The grandad prayed for a ‘miracle’, which came in the form of a lottery win.
Paul Walker was having some bad luck after he was told his job was on the line. Paul, from Dukinfield, Tameside, is set to lose his job at a chemical company in January. He faced a grim Christmas and a tricky new year…
Not knowing what to do, the 56-year-old grandad let fate decide his future.
Firstly, Walker decided to put on an accumulator at the bookies in order to gain a few quid. Unfortunately, that failed when he bet on his beloved Man United to lose to Watford. The Reds won.
Before leaving the Betfred shop, Paul, who had a spare quid in his pocket, bought an Irish Lotto ticket.
Irish Lotto Miracle
“I’d had some really bad luck and thought I could have done with a miracle,” Paul said.
He put the ticket in his shirt pocket and forgot about it for four days.
Staff at the shop in Newton, Hyde, were later told one of their customers had won a top prize. They started a search for the lucky punter, who they remembered had black hair and wore glasses.
Paul’s pals heard about the search, but it still didn’t occur to him to check his numbers. When he finally did, he realized he had won £150,000 on the lucky dip.
It was just a bit of luck Paul needed – and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Now he and his wife Susan are looking forward to a luxury holiday in Mexico. They’re also planning a Mediterranean cruise – and are planning to buy a new car.
Betfred boss Fred Done said: “It is perfect timing for Paul to beat the odds and win so much.”
