$758 million US PowerBall Jackpot Won
In Massachusetts, a single US Powerball ticket has matched all six numbers for a massive $758.7 million Jackpot win. The second largest jackpot in US Powerball history. However, the winner is yet to be identified.
Since the last PowerBall winner announced on June 10th, there has been no winner for the last 20 draws. The grand prize was sold at the Handy Variety convenience store in Watertown, Massachusetts. The winning ticket holder has yet to claim their prize. Let’s hope they have not misplaced it!
The winning numbers are 06-07-16-23-26 with the Powerball number 04.
Three tickets sold in California matched five out of six winning numbers too. The winners splitting the $1 million prize. According to NBC Bay Area, these tickets were sold in Milpitas, Daly City and Newport Beach. Powerball is played in 44 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Lottery officials say that in New York State, Powerball sales topped more than $1 million an hour on the day of the draw. Even though the odds of winning are 1 out of 292 million, people flocked to gas stations to buy their tickets. Managers were forced to bring in extra staff in during the week build up to the jackpot draw. Relative to the winning odds, you are more likely to be;
- killed by an asteroid (1 in 700,000),
- struck by lightning while drowning (1 in 183 million)
- give birth to quadruplets (1 in 729,000).
California Lottery spokeswoman Melissa Villarin talked about how the incredibly high jackpot ‘fuels the lottery craze’. California PowerBall sales averaged $8.1 million a week in 2016 until the record $1.6 billion jackpot was announced and rose to $386 million in frantic sales. She says “Sure, for $50 million you can retire in a nice house and live well. But $700 million, that’s Bill Gates money. It’s a daydream, it’s fame.”
